The Korean War was the first military engagement for the United States following its victory in WWII.  The United States was riding a wave of opitimism and prosperity.  Many historians refer to the Korean War as the "Forgotten War". Technically, it wasn't a war - but a "Police Action".  The soldiers in this war fought under the flag of the United Nations.
